Real Madrid have beaten rival Valladolid 4-0 in a game that will be mostly remembered due to Garth Bale stepping into Christiano Ronaldo’s shoes and scoring a magical hat-trick, to give Real Madrid an easy victory.
Over the past few weeks many voices have raised that Christiano Ronaldo should be awarded best player of the year and win the Ballon D’or. Peole who backed this notion were split to two:
- Those who back Real Madrid and\or Christiano Ronaldo; such as the Madrid’s Marca journal or Portuguese National Team Manager – Paulo Bento.
- Those who feel that the prize ‘Player of the Year’ should be rewarded to whoever was the best player in the month of October. As, evidently, having a fanoumanal month in the least significant month of the season, but the most recent month before rewarding the ballon d’or, is the main criteria for choosing the best player in whole 2013.
Those people, of course, couldn’t care less about the fact that Ronaldo hasn’t won even a single title this season and didn’t even reached close to win any title. But now they have a great reason why Ronaldo should win it – who “solely” took Portugal to the world cup. Yes, the same team that for decades reaches to all the big tournaments, and on several occasions played a significant role in those competitions, and is a constant threat to the title. This is his greatest achievement this year – he brought this team of world-wide superstars to the world cup. Instead of being embarrassed they finished second to Russia, barely beating Israel in the group stage, he is a hero, because Portugal managed to beat Sweden and reach the world-cup.
Anyway, as the title of this article suggests, there was a game this evening, between Real Madrid and visitors Valladolid. Christiano Ronaldo didn’t play. Garth Bale did play. He scored three goals. Real won 4-0.
Here are the game’s highlights, including Bale’s show:
