The South Americas continues to compete over who will get to participate in the Mundial next summer in their home continent. The two leading nations, Argentina and Colombia, played against each other in a match that promised plenty and offered, well, nothing; Chile surpasses Venezuela after beating Paraguay.
Argentina vs. Colombia 0:0 – Argentina vs. Colombia, Messi vs. Falcao, the leading team of the group against its runner up – what a skeptical this must be! Yes, this is what we all assumed before the game, and the level of disappointment cannot be fully transcribed into words. Messi eventually opened the game on the bench, and only started playing at the 57th minute, probably injured. The only significant event in the game was, sadly, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristian Zapata being shows the red card following an ugly feud between the two.
Paraguay vs. Chile 1:2 – a super important win for Chile that now conquers the fourth place in the group. The forth place insures participation in the world-cup, whereas the fifth place only sends you to the playoffs. Scored for Chile: Eduardo Vargas (41) and Juventus’s Star Arturo Vidal (54). Roque Santa Cruz from Paraguay only managed to slightly sweeten the pill (88).
Peru vs. Ecuador 1:0 – Ecuador losses important points in their journey to Brazil 2014, yet they’re still in a great jumping point. Peru should now fantasize about a win vs. Colombia on Tuesday that will put the Peruvians players in the fifth place. Claudio Pizarro scored the winning goal for Peru in the 12th minute.
Bolivia vs. Venezuela 1:1 – so close, so close Venezuela. The surprising team of this group suffered a very unlucky draw against Bolivia and now the road to world-cup seems a bit harder. Venezuela already led the game with a goal by Juan Arango (58), yet an equalizer by Jhasmany Campos (86) splat the points between the two.
